Juxtaposed…

This specific installation “Contrast in media and the greater world around us” highlights my work exploring different media. My favorite thing about art has become the duality it is capable of conveying. Each piece focuses on two subjects or two ideas whether it is the pure wholeness of love versus the destruction of hate and war or a large 3-D piece on the contrast of having a finished painting compared to a blank page.

When working I start with an idea in my mind and just start playing with the supplies I have available to me to make the vision a reality as best as possible.  One example of this is the pieces “Contrast” and “genuineXparanoia.” “Contrast” came first just as a simple sketch then I decided to turn it into a larger piece playing with textures and the idea of lights and shadows.

Lights and shadows have become an overarching motif throughout the entire collection as each piece has layers that add shadows and complexity to the work. “indistinctXjuxtaposition” shows this with its plastic screen over it.  The overlay covers the image but also reinforces it with important images from the canvas on the second layer. The last piece “faithfulXabandon” is about the idea of having hope versus not believing. The piece also again plays with texture as there are layers of paper, paint and other mediums creating the conflict between religion and despair.
